Silver Lake when HWY 158 is Closed

Local Tip

During winter (and enough snow), HWY 158 closes shortly past Double Eagle Resort and remains closed past Grant Lake.  The unplowed conditions of the Highway during snowy winters makes for a wonderful ungroomed cross country skiing, hiking or snowshoeing spot.  This is a flat course that passes through the closed Silver Lake Resort, out of respect, locals do not venture on the resort property. Stick to the trail or hang out on the snowy shores of Silver Lake. Alternatively, you can go all the way to Grant Lake and have a car waiting or make it an Out N’ Back.

  • June Lake Loop has year round activities

  • The busiest tourism season is Summer (June/July/Aug)

  • The water is better up here, drink it from the tap
