Walker Lake / Mono Pass Trail

This is a fisherman’s favorite and also links up with other more challenging hikes.  The Walker Lake / Mono Pass trail head is also known as Bloody Canyon, after where it is geographically located (see the forest service link to the history of that name). There is a 3.5 mile drive on a dirt road to reach the trail head, along sawmill canyon road (Forest Service Road 1S23 – follow signs for Walker Lake).  The trail head has four basic free-to-use campsites.  You can head to your right and descend to Walker Lake, which has multiple shoreline trails.  You can also head out the back of the campground and head to lower Sardine Lake….or more!  Just make sure you can get back up the steep trail you walk down to get to Walker Lake. Get a map and plan your adventure based on your group’s ability.
